The research lasted 20 years and followed up in the evolution of a group of young 3200 when the study began were 18 to 30 years.
Due to the results released their voice scientists warning about how important prevention is a very early age to prevent cardiovascular problems to reach adulthood.
“It is customary not to worry too much about the risk of heart disease until they reach middle age, since it is rare to have a heart attack in young people”, said Dr. Mark Pletcher of the University of California at San Francisco, who was the director of the study that was published in Annals of Internal Medicine.
But the important thing is that the sooner they begin to care for, may be in excellent health throughout the course of life. Pletcher added that “It is important to consider this aspect in the young. The damage that occurs in the coronary arteries probably carries its consequences later”.
The researchers followed for twenty years the evolution of the volunteers and warned that with the passage of time that recorded higher levels of high cholesterol (LDL) were the ones more prone to develop heart disease.
Also, experts suggest that young cholesterol-lowering lifestyle change, what which translates into a healthy diet and increasing physical activity, but not advised to take medication to reduce it.
“Diet and exercise would be more important than cholesterol-lowering medication in young adults”, said Pletcher. Moreover, the American Heart Association has recommended that people over 20 years to carry out checks on a regular basis of your cholesterol level at least once every five years, and the same for those who accuse a 200 reading milligrams per deciliter of blood have a higher risk of suffering a heart level.
