Oral Hygiene
It recognizes a healthy mouth, among others, by gum pink, not swollen and does not bleed with brushing. Oral health and general health are closely linked, it is important to maintain good daily oral hygiene by brushing using a brush with soft bristles and fluoride toothpaste.
No brush can not reach the contacts between the teeth and the space between the gum and tooth. Decay and gum disease that can develop there, only flossing can complete the cleaning of these surfaces. The crevices of the tongue contain dead cells, the biofilm (plaque) and food debris that can only be eliminated by using a toothbrush or a tongue-scraper.
Food
For adults, as in all ages, it is appropriate to consume enough dairy products and all food groups, as noted in the document:
Visiting a dental hygienist and the dentist
Visits to the six or twelve months from the dental hygienist and dentist can identify tooth decay, gum disease and other oral diseases (defective fillings, oral lesions, bruxism, etc..). The most important thing to mention any health problems, medication taken, allergies, symptoms, etc.. The advice, preventive methods, treatment methods and frequency will be customized to each well.
Periodontal disease (gums and bones supporting the tooth)
At the incipient stage, gum disease are often painless and not detectable by yourself. Screening and early treatment can prevent progression of inflammation of the gums (gingivitis) to support the teeth (periodontitis). Untreated periodontitis causes bone resorption and may escalate to loss of teeth. The control of gum disease and preserve teeth also helps to prevent progression or complications of other diseases (eg diabetes).
Many studies show that microorganisms present in periodontal disease may migrate into the bloodstream and be involved in heart disease, stroke and lung diseases.
Dentin Hypersensitivity
The gingival recession and tooth wear (attrition, abrasion and erosion) caused the exposure of tooth surfaces whose nerve endings are less isolated (cementum and dentin). This often causes tooth sensitivity to hot, cold, sweet, the acidity of citrus, brushing, pressure and touch. The dental hygienist can help you identify the cause and advise you of excellent solutions.
Replacing missing teeth
It should ideally replace missing teeth to:
- prevent displacement, loosening and eventual loss of other teeth;
- facilitate chewing and thereby promote optimal digestion;
- reduce the risk of gum disease;
- bring a smile;
- keep optimal speech;
- prevent problems of TMJ.
Several types of prostheses may be considered: dentures (partial or complete), fixed bridges and dental implants. These methods of tooth replacement require special health care that dental hygienist will teach you.
Dentures
Dentures (partial or full) should be brushed after every meal using a soft brush. It is advisable to remove at least four hours a day, massaging the gums with a soft toothbrush and clean language. When not in the mouth, dentures should be covered with water or a cleaning solution designed for this purpose in order to prevent drying.
Money
Surface stains caused by coffee, tea, red wine and tobacco, for example, can usually be removed during a professional cleaning. In a healthy person whose teeth are healthy and mature, the color can be changed using the money. The result varies depending on the color of the tooth and its response to bleach. The dental hygienist and the dentist must first send the client all information required: benefits, risks, side effects, appropriate health advice, etc..
Halitosis (bad breath)
Halitosis can be occasional or chronic, that is to say that persists despite good oral hygiene. The hormonal changes, medical problems or medications can affect the breath. However, the most common causes are from the oral cavity: poor hygiene, dental problems (eg tooth decay, abscesses, gum disease, etc..), Alcohol, tobacco, foods, etc.. A good daily oral hygiene, healthy lifestyle and the cleaning and care professionals in practice eliminates much of the causes of halitosis.
Smoking
You are perhaps part of the 75% of smokers wish to quit this habit but who need help. Like all health professionals, dental hygienist and dentist have information about it (documentation, Abandonment centers, etc..). And as the first signs of negative effects of smoking occur in the mouth, smokers are informed of the status of his mouth at every visit.
Oral Cancer
